What we collect, why, and your rights

Love Bern is an independent travel guide. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This page explains, in plain language, what is collected when you visit the site, why, who processes it, and the rights you have under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP / revDSG) and, for visitors in the EU/EEA, the GDPR.

Who is responsible

The data controller for this website is the Love Bern editorial team. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected] (see the contact page).

What we collect

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which guides are useful and how the site is performing (pages viewed, approximate region, device and browser type, and how you reached us). This is processed by Google as our processor; IP addresses are handled by Google in line with its own policies and we do not use the data to identify you personally.
  • Server / hosting logs. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, timestamp and requested page) for security and to keep the site running.
  • Email you send us. If you email us a correction, suggestion or partnership enquiry, we keep that message and your email address only for as long as needed to reply and follow up.

We do not run a contact form or accounts, we do not ask you to register, and we do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies (or uses similar identifiers) to measure visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use a browser/extension that opts you out of analytics, without losing access to any content on the site. Maps on some pages load tiles from a third-party map provider when you view them.

Third parties and international transfers

Some of our processors (for example Google for analytics, and our hosting and map providers) are based outside Switzerland, including in the United States. Where data is transferred abroad, we rely on those providers’ safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to keep the level of protection the FADP and GDPR require. Images are served from third-party content delivery networks; following an outbound link to an official source (see our sources page) takes you to a site with its own privacy policy.

Your rights

Under the FADP and, where it applies, the GDPR, you can ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to certain processing, and (in the EU/EEA) request data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The “Last updated” date below the article reflects the most recent review.
